Sock-cessful Socks! Taught by Claudia Pine

Sock Knitting for Beginners, from the Basics to Beyond

Beginner: need to know only how to cast on, knit and purl
Class Fee: $45.00

Please note that this full-day class is taught in a split session; first half is Friday afternoon from 1 to 4 and the second half is taught Saturday afternoon from 1 to 4.

Learn how to knit socks, either toe-up or top-down. I’ll teach you the parts of a sock, from cuff to gusset to toe, how to measure your foot for a perfect fit, when to choose toe-up versus top-down, and how to handle cast-ons, cuffs, heels, and toes in several ways for more fun and beautiful results. (If you don’t like the Dreaded Kitchener Stitch, we have multiple solutions for you!) At the end of this class you will have your first sock, from the toe-up or top-down pattern of your choice, and be on your way to exploring many other variations in the wonderful world of socks. You will know the pluses and minuses of working socks on double-points, versus circulars, versus “Magic Loop” circular. You only need to bring needles, I’ll bring the patterns and the yarn.

Students should bring Needles: either 1 set of double-points, OR 3 circulars (16”-24”), OR 2 circulars (a 16” and a 29”) in size 5 or 6.

Claudia will supply complete original patterns for both toe-up and top-down socks with cuff, toe and heel variations; and yarn for 1 pair of baby to toddler size socks. (Which could also be a pretty and whimsical ornament 🙂 She will have some loaner needles, and samples demonstrating all of the various techniques taught.
