A note from the Guild board:
THE FUTURE OF THE FIBER ARTS FAIR
The Weaving, Spinning, & Fiber Arts Guild has produced the Snake River Fiber Arts Fair for 22 years. After much deliberation, the Guild’s Board of Directors has decided to forego producing the Fair for a period of time. For the present, the focus of the Guild is on our education mission by hosting a number of study groups and offering a variety of classes throughout the year.
This decision has been a difficult one to make. It’s been hard work, but has brought a lot to our Guild as well as to our community. It began as a way of bringing various fiber-related suppliers to Idaho Falls. Over the years, it evolved into so much more. It brought many types of fiber craft classes from quality instructors, showcased Guild member treasures in the Gallery, provided lively entertainment, and provided a comfortable atmosphere for fiber enthusiasts to come together and share their talents and stories. Proceeds from the Fair primarily helped fund the rental of our studio space for classes, day and evening open studio times, guild study groups, membership meetings, and storage for our membership rentals: books, magazines, supplies, and equipment. We’ve been thinking of other ways to fund the rental of the studio space.
If we had more membership interest and involvement, we may consider producing the Fair every two years. It takes months of planning and preparation to produce the quality event you know and enjoy. The past few years, producing the Fair has fallen on the same few members. The Team would love to share their years of experience and mentor anyone who may be interested in chairing, co-chairing, and/or participating in the production of a Fair. Suggestions and comments are welcomed and appreciated! Please contact any Board Member or come sit in on a Board meeting. Contact information and meeting times & dates are found in our monthly newsletters.
